Underhanded hidden fees and customer service that couldn't care less.
We had to rent a car to drive home, one-way (about 500 miles). We were on vacation, having flown to our destination, we rented a car from another rental agency to use during our trip. When we called the other agency to see if we could drive that vehicle back home at the end of our trip (we were unable to secure a flight home when we wanted it), the other agency told us it would cost an additional $300, which was ridiculous, as we would have only had their car for 6 more hours than we originally booked. I booked a one-way rental car on Budget’s website for 1/4 of what the other rental agency wanted! I’ve used Budget in the past and they have never let me down. The only reason I deducted a star was because I wasn’t thrilled with the way the Budget rental car handled while driving it home, nothing dangerous, just not a great road-trip car (Nissan Sentra).

I forgot I had signed up for Budget's Fastbreak program when I got to the counter, but it made all the difference in the world. I was in and out of there in under 5 minutes courtesy of a very courteous clerk, and the keys were already in the car with the trunk open so I could leave quickly.
They have always been the most affordable company I have used in the USA and the most accommdating when collecting my rental. Even when they didn't have the car I reserved (Chevrolet Suburban), they promised they would get one delivered to my hotel the following morning as they where expecting one back that evening. They did however have to put me into a 15 seater Ford Transit just to get my family and I on our way. The Suburban did arrive the following morning by 9am and they even gave me a generous discount for the inconvenience.
Despite mixed reviews, some of them discouraging my confidence with this company, I have continued to use them for the third year running. Most recently for my family holiday in August.
On a side note, anyone complaining that there are hidden fees... obviously you didn't bother to read thru the prices completely before you finished paying, nor did you bother to read the contractual information provided during the payment process. It says it there in black and white, and all the fees are shown with descriptions upon checkout when you're paying online. Anyone regularly renting a vehicle knows that if you arrive outside of the timeframe you originally booked, you will be charged an extra day. Always read the fine print and use your common sense. Always return the vehicle in the condition you received it, clean with a full tank of gas.
This has been just another episode in a string of very negative encounters with Budget. I stopped using Budget for my business a few years ago and am right now renting 15 vehicles from Enterprise for our field operations. Unfortunately, Enterprise did not have vehicles available this time, otherwise I would have gone with them.
That was the best ride I ever had. I booked my car thru USAA, and was afforded an opportunity to have a sports car at the same rate as the economy car because of a sale at the time of purchase.
Who knew that when I got there they'd give me the car I always wanted, a brand new dark red Ford Mustang with all the extras you wish you could afford to have the dealership install when you buy a new car. I even liked all the goofy lightup features on it, like the Mustang mirror light. It was a gorgeous car with barely 9000 miles on it. It ran great, and was a dream to drive.

A no-problem rental. The counter is located about 3-minute walk from the terminal and is open 24 hours which was a relief given a delayed landing time of 3am. The car was clean and ran well. Returning the vehicle was easy and the overall rate was reasonable.
I reserved a car for a day from this location. My meeting before the pick up finished earlier than I anticipated, so I showed up at the location an hour early. The agent at the counter said that there was no problem and set me up with the car. He failed to mention that I would be charged ALMOST AN ENTIRE DAY'S RATE for having showed up an hour early and returning the car at the time that was agreed to in the reservation. Called the customer service number and the agent couldn't have cared less and had an attitude of, 'We're a massive corporation and you're a little nobody customer. We don't care if you have a problem with our charges.' I asked to speak to a supervisor. He put me on hold for a few minutes and told me that a supervisor was not available and that they would give me a call back. No call back was ever received. I'm pretty sure that is a violation of FCC regulations. But, what do they care, right?
